
ITALY IN SAN FRANCISCO ... A history that began 300 years ago ..
At an elevation of 200 meters (600 ') above sea level, in 2001 about 5 acres of vines planted Were, all from local clones of the traditional Montepulciano grape. This region, Called the "Hills Teramane" after the nearby mountain town of Teramo, is to produce the finest wine aknowledged in the region. It is the first and only zones in the Abruzzi to Be Given the Italian government's Highest quality ranking of DOCG (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin).
The first vintages of small-scale Monepulciano Were Made in 2003-4. In 2005, the first boot Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOCG was made, with the assistance of highly-respected local enologist Loriano Sabatino. It was custom-crushed at the nearby state-of-the-art winery of Centorame, where young Lamberto Vanucci Makes Himself Hills Terramane spectacular wines. The wine was aged for 14 months in new small French barrels. Three hundred six-pack cases Were Made.
This wine Represents the culmination of a generations-old dream for Lawrence family and the boot. It is a special tribute to Lorenzo Vincenzo's father, who taught HIM To Love and Respect the land, and to enjoy the fruits of Their very special "terroir" with family and friends around the world.
2005 Scarpone Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC â Tribute to Vincenzo
In 2005, the first Scarpone Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC was made, with the assistance of highly-respected local enologist Loriano di Sabatino. It was custom-crushed at the nearby state-of-the-art winery of Centorame, where young Lamberto Vanucci himself makes outstanding Colline Terramane wines. This special cuvée represents the culmination of a generations-old dream of Lorenzo and the Scarpone family. It is a special tribute to Lorenzo's father, Vincenzo, who taught him to love and respect the land, and to share the fruits of their very special "terroir" with family and friends around the world.

Vinification
Aged for 14 months in small French oak barrels
Characteristics
Dark garnet color Deep ripe plum flavors. Firm tannins have been mellowed, but not overwhelmed, by the oak. Drinking beautifully already, but will gain complexity with 5-10 years of bottle aging.
Food pairings
Ideal with Abruzzese lamb dishes, or any substaintial meats. Pasta with meat sauces. Aged cheeses, especially pecorino.

2006 Scarpone Montepulicano d'Abruzzo DOC
For the 2006 vintage, the more mature vineyard produced a larger crop of very high quality grapes. We were able to make a slightly larger quantity of wine, in the traditional fresh and lively style of Montepulciano. We were very fortunate to have a house in the midst of such an ideal wine growing area!

Vinification
Fermentation in stainless steel, then aging in large Slavonian oak barrels.
Characteristics
Bright and fresh berry fruit. Excellent depth of color and flavor. Naturally soft tannins make it very accessible for current drinking. Will improve for at least 5 years (but will probably all have been enjoyed long before that).
Food pairings
All tomato pastas and pizzas. Grilled chicken, meats and sausages. Mozzarella and medium-strong cheeses.

Storia
Da sempre appassionato di cibo e vino, Lorenzo è andato a un prestigioso ristorante e scuola alberghiera a Giulianova, Abruzzo e aprì un ristorante di pesce di qualità superiore, sulla costa adriatica con il fratello chef, Marcello. Ansiosi di vedere il mondo, Lorenzo ha lavorato su diversi navi da crociera di lusso internazionale, e in migliori ristoranti italiani a Londra (per perfezionare il suo inglese!).
Lorenzo seguì il suo mentore, rinomato ristoratore Giancarlo Paterlini, a San Francisco, e ha lavorato per lui come manager e sommellier presso il punto di riferimento Ristorante Donatello. Qui Lorenzo sposò sua moglie Susy, e hanno iniziato a coltivare i loro tre figli. Ansioso di mantenere i suoi legami con la sua famiglia allargata in Abruzzo, e di portare il meraviglioso cibo e vini della sua regione d'origine negli Stati Uniti, con sede Lorenzo Villa Italia nel 1989 come società di importazione di vini italiani. L'azienda è diventata leader nella sua categoria, l'importazione dei vini di circa 37 produttori di vino artigianale per gli Stati Uniti
Lorenzo è stato anche uno dei primi leader del movimento Slow Food, aprendo il loro primo "Convivium", a San Francisco nel 1990. Dalle sue prime esperienze di allevamento con il padre Vincenzo, era sempre stato un convinto sostenitore di piccola scala, l'agricoltura sostenibile e hands-on del vino artigianale-making.
Quando l'occasione di acquistare un ideale, situato a 15 ettari di terreno e oliveto, con la possibilitĂ di piantare un vigneto di 5 ettari sulla collina di lĂ del fiume dalla Guardia Vomano, Lorenzo e la sua famiglia colse al volo.
